Why this is a partial scholarship, not a full ride
Years ago, I wanted to compete at the World Championship Quarter Horse Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I asked a wealthy local business owner to sponsor the trip. I asked for $400.
He gave me $100 and said, "I could easily pay for your whole trip, but you'll learn so much by having to figure out how to get the rest of the money."
"You'll learn so much having to talk to more people and work hard to get the rest."
That was the whole reason he gave. He wanted me to dive in and work for the rest, not just get handed a check.
He shared with me that my grandpa had given him money years before when he was in a hard spot, and this was his way of paying it forward.
So I'm following my mentor's lead and paying it forward, too.
That's why this scholarship covers part of the tuition, not all of it. You'll still have skin in the game, and you'll learn plenty getting there.

How recipients are chosen
My team and I read every single application. We look for:
- A goal. You know where you want your farm to go.
- Readiness. You're ready and willing to learn some new skills.
- Fit. You sell, or plan to sell, directly to your customers.
- Commitment. You have a real plan to make time for the work.
Recipients will be notified privately by email on Friday, November 6, and announced publicly on Monday, November 9, the day enrollment opens.
